Shrimp City Slim

Originally from Chicago,  Shrimp City Slim is Charleston's best-known blues musician.  He has released seven CDs to date, organizes the city's annual blues festival (Lowcountry Blues Bash), and is host of the popular "Blues on The Bridge" on WCOO-FM.  Charleston City Paper named him "Best Bluesman"  in a specially-created category in their 2004 poll.  He performs 150+ dates per year, throughout the Southeast and overseas.

Shrimp City Slim plays & sings vivacious, rockin' piano blues in the styles of Chicago and New Orleans, doing his own original songs and reprising the classics of Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Fats Domino, and others.  He is known for his ability to improvise and involve his audience.  It's always a party when Shrimp City Slim is behind the 88's!

"Dark Road Piano" is Shrimp City Slim's seventh CD and his first solo project (piano/vocal). After years of leading his own bands and backing noted downhome blues artists like Chicago Bob Nelson, Big Boy Henry, Neal Pattman, Lightnin' Bug Rhodes, and Beverly Guitar Watkins, he has elected to record an intimate solo performance...15 new original songs cut live one sultry afternoon in an ancient church in Charleston. The tape was rolling and the blues came on...Lowcountry blues and original songs; no more, no less. Enjoy. Includes the rollicking "Say Goodbye to Charleston", "(We Should Be) Naked", "Go Back to New Orleans", the ironic "Broom & Hose", the crusty slow blues "Home & High", and the topical "Dark Road".
